Marc Leibson, M.Ed., LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, (Kentucky license #505).

In 1998 Marc opened his private practice, the Human Process and Development Group.

Marc received his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.  This program is accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT is the most widely recognized and respected organization of its kind, in the United States).   Marc is also a clinical member of AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists).

The name of Marc's private practice, Human Process and Development Group, was chosen out of an appreciation of how truly complex people are, and also to recognize how human growth and development are tied to the processes which each person participates in throughout life. Our experiences shape how we think about ourselves and the world. However, as adults we can learn to influence the process we are involved with, and then we can create new possibilities for ourselves.

Marc chose to receive his family therapy training at LPTS because of their commitment to the spiritual side of the human being. This commitment is not true for many AAMFT accredited programs (this makes LPTS rather special in that way).

Marc believes that when one is concerned with human processes, one also deals with the human spirit and it's relationship to the Divine.  However, in counseling sessions Marc does not initiate discussions about spirituality, because, he respects and follows the client's leads and interests.

At Human Process and Development Group, no particular religious point of view is privileged or promoted at the expense of another.  Whenever clients feel that such discussions are not relevant to their lives, then work proceeds according to their expressed wishes and inclinations.  Respect is the key word here.

Before receiving his training in Marriage and Family Therapy, Marc received his Master of Education degree from Antioch New England Graduate School. There, Marc specialized in Early Childhood Education, and Child Development Studies. Upon completing his education studies, Marc received certification to teach both in Early Childhood and Elementary School programs; both in the public schools (New Hampshire), and in the international Waldorf School movement (see Waldorf School page on this site).   Then, he became the founding teacher of the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh (PA), and very happily taught kindergarten there for several years.

In the 2001-2002 school year, Marc was an Instructor of Child Development and Early Childhood Education at Jefferson Community College in Louisville, Kentucky.   In addition to his college teaching, Marc continued counseling adults and children at his private practice, Human Process and Development Group.

Currently, Marc works full-time counseling individuals, couples, and families at his office, Human Process and Development Group.  He also practices family therapy as an independent contractor for Kentucky's, First Steps program.  That program provides services to families in Kentucky with children below the age of three who have developmental delays. (see the Child Development page on this website).

  • Marc finds counseling to be extremely, personally rewarding, and loves helping folks to find their individual ways towards their own brighter, more enjoyable, and more fulfilling futures.  Since entering the field, he regularly attends workshops to continue to extend his skills for the benefit of clients. He has obtained level 2 certification as an EMDR clinician (see EMDR page on this web-site). He also keeps current in his field, and is especially interested in brain processes & research, parenting and child development, and spiritual issues. He believes each of these have important effects on being (and becoming) human.

Marc and his wife have thoroughly enjoyed each other's company together for 25 years. They have invested a lot of time learning how to navigate a successful, long-term, romantic partnership.  Marc considers these experiences to be extremely important in his ability to help couples; as important as his formal training in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Marc and his wife have a 7 year old son who is affectionate, creative, thoughtful, easy to get along with, and who they are very proud of (you can't tell?).   Marc loves helping other parents find new, more effective ways of parenting, so that they can spend the greatest amount of time enjoying their own children.  (Hey, we have to live with them, so we might as well learn how to make it as enjoyable as possible, right?)
